In Time is Precious, Joana Pinheiro invites us to reflect on the value of time and the urgency of establishing conscious priorities in contemporary life. The piece, currently on show at the Póvoa de Varzim branch of the Gaia Art Biennial (until 10 June 2025), combines formal simplicity with expressive intensity. On a white background - a symbol of potential and pause - a serene, continuous golden line stands out, running through the composition like a guiding thread. This line represents time as a precious, linear and finite commodity, suggesting clarity, focus and purpose. In contrast, the broad strokes of black, blue and pink erupt with force and emotion, evoking chaos, the multiplicity of stimuli and the complexity of everyday choices. The juxtaposition between the precision of the line and the gestural freedom of the colours suggests the tension between the essential and the accessory, between what is permanent and what is fleeting. With this work, Joana Pinheiro proposes a visual contemplation on what really matters - a call to attention to time as a scarce resource, but also as a space for creation and authenticity.
